Berliner Weisse

Berliner Weisse is a cloudy sour beer that normally sits on the lower range of the Abv spectrum. It is a traditonal regional variation on the white beer style from Northern Germany, dating back as far the 16th Century. Normal production inlcuded the use of Lactic acid bacteria, that often just it the unique sour and creamy taste. By the late 20th Century, there were only two breweries left in Berlin producing the style, giving it the beer its Protected geographical indication within the EU.

With the rise in craft beer this refreshing summer style has had a resurgance. With many breweries using fruit to create wild almost smoothy like fruit beers. Tradtionally Germans would either add raspberry syrup or woodruff syrup to sweeten up their sour ales.

Expect a touch of sourness but backed up with a creamy undertone. Not everyone’s bag!!
