Description

A tempranillo dominated blend with a cupful of graciano. A brilliant red, smoothed out with 14 months in oak. The nose is buzzing with excitement as ripe black fruit mingle spice and tasty notes. The party continues as the blackberry and blackcurrants flirt with dark red cherry with a warm embrace of cinnamon spice.

Rioja Vega

Founded in 1882 in Haro , Rioja Vega originally started as Bodegas Felipe Ugalde. By 1921 it had officially become Rioja Vega, an estate based on the Chateau model of Bordeaux, surrounded by vineyards in Venta Jalon near Logrono. In 1983 it was bought by Principe de Viana who invested heavily in the vineyards and winery itself enabling them to concentrate on the quality of their wines. They even have their onw cooperage

VITICULTURE

Tempranillo from our vineyard in the Imaz area at 390 meters altitude on a slight slope in a saline and limestone area with short yields. The Graciano is planted on a plot with stony  limestone soils, and gravel beneath. Both planted 20 years ago.

WINEMAKING PROCESS

Grapes carefully selected on the vineyards, with a production of 5,000 kilograms per hectare. Very light destemming to avoid damaging the berries. Alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks under temperature control from the very moment of the reception of the grapes, evolution of the fermentation process. Post-fermentation maceration for 10 days Malolactic fermentation in small oak barrels. Rackings and ageing in American oak barrels for 14 month.
